- PROBLEM SOLVING: How are our sins forgiven? How does Christ explain/set it up?
- give evidence and explanations
- include the importance of this section
God (trinity) alone has the authority to forgive sins. "the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" (Matt. 9:6) Here in the Book of Matthew, we have the evidence that JC has that authority. Because he IS God. Christ explains it as only God, which he is can forgive sins and only those who he annoints can forgive sins; his successors. Jesus gave the authority to Peter, and Peter to his successor and to his and so on.
The importance of this section is to show us that God truly loves us, and no matter what will forgive us. However we must 1) Ask God for forgiveness, or 2) go to reconciliation to seek out a man who has the authority, by god, to forgive us.
